I played DS2 on PS3, platinated the game, and still this new DS2 new game was a new experiencie, 60 fps, new enemies, improved AI. But you can respec your stats at that point.
Play it as a mage and it’s tons of fun until the DLC that’s designed to screw over mages. It’s twice as long as every other entry though and has ten times the build variety. It’s a great game but lacks a bit of polish. Is it worth playing Dark Souls 2 scholar of the first sin? Enemies have better placement, and you get the DLC in with it. Well, I have a couple hundred hours in that game, and I can tell you it’s honestly nothing like DS3. I didn’t like it as much as 3, but it’s still definitely worth it. There is a playfulness to DS2 that you don’t find as much in the other two. The weapons are more fun than the other two games and the DLC bosses are more challenging and rewarding. With this said, Dark Souls II is worth playing. The scholar of the fist sin edition is like 20 bucks now and it includes all three dlcs, so you get a lot of content for your money. Many would argue it is not a great “souls” game, but it’s good nonetheless. Go in with an empty cup (Bruce Lee), and you will not be disappointed at all. Ignore all expectations, fanboyism, derision, or hype regarding Dark Souls 2. Dark Souls 2’s PVP has to be the best in the Souls franchise. Dark Souls 3 failed to make meaningful changes to PVP, and players die too fast.
